I am trying to think of suitable snack to take for while we are waiting that will keep us both going. Most of the foods he eats at he moment are pretty messy so I'm not sure what to pick. Might have to resort to a sugar free bisuit for him (organix animal biscuits) and a banana and apple for me, and a pot of peanuts in the car just in case.

I'm Back

Well it's been a long time since I've put anything up on here, but I'm on maternity leave and thought it might be a useful time to put things up. It's even more important for me to keep my blood sugar high at the moment as I'm expressing milk for my little boy.
Tonight I needed a quick dinner so made a variation of my pizza toasts recipe. I use wholemeal bread and put on it a pizza sauce and then top with soya cheese. It took about 20 mins altogether to cook and eat.

The sauce is just made from frying some finely chopped garlic, onions, mushrooms and red pepper mixed with italian dried herbs. Then I added a tin of tomatoes and blended it together. If I want extra protein I will add a tin of red kidney beans and I also often add other veg like courgette.

There is a variation of the recipe here: http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk/quickpizza.html

Vitamins

I know that certain vitamins are supposed to help low blood sugar such as B vitamins, chromium and magnesium. Any ideas of low fat filling snacks that don't need much preparation (if any!) would be appreciated.

Feeling Fuller

I must say that eating more wholemeal products not only balances my blood sugar better but also makes me feel more full which stops me wanting to snack on things which are bad for me. I often have people saying 'one won't hurt' and 'you should let yourself have a treat' without understanding that even a small amount of sugar can make a really big difference to your blood sugar. I feel that some people think you are rude to say no to food when it is offered even if you have a medical condition that means you can't have it. We made the biscuits with wholemeal flour and no sugar so they would be good for our blood sugar levels. Unfortunately I couldn't resist adding some chocolate on the top to make them taste nicer. The result has been very dramatic. My eldest daughter had nightmares last night and has been in a real mood today, I was snappy with them both when they weren't really naughty and the youngest has been really tired.

Serves me right really, I should have known better. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Low Blood Sugar

Low blood sugar is a disease that runs in my family. The aim of this blog is to keep a diary of how things I am doing in my diet and other parts of my life change the way I feel and how my blood sugar is doing in order to help other people cope with this.

It accompanies a website I have created which is where I started this diary. However, I felt that it would be a good idea to change it to a blog diary as I would be able to more easily have feedback on how other people cope.

I hope you enjoy the blog and while you are waiting for my first diary entry take a look at the website:

http://www.bowbridgepublishing.com/lowbloodsugar
